Second Skin: Art, Identity & Material Transformation | Mavenira Gallery

Second Skin: Art, Identity & Material Transformation | Mavenira Gallery

Mavenira Gallery presents Second Skin, a thought-provoking contemporary group exhibition that explores the body as a site of identity, transformation, memory, and expression. Opening on 13 March 2026 at Curio Home, Dempsey Hill, Singapore, the exhibition brings together six distinguished contemporary artists from diverse cultural and creative backgrounds.

Featuring works by Kumari Nahappan, Ezzam Rahman, Andy Yang, Aryan Arora, Alina Gross, and EL Taganas, Second Skin creates a powerful dialogue between material experimentation and human vulnerability. Through sculpture, photography, abstraction, and conceptual forms, the artists reinterpret the body not merely as a physical structure, but as a layered archive of lived experience and evolving identity.

From Kumari Nahappan’s transformation of discarded technological materials into tactile woven surfaces, to Ezzam Rahman’s deeply personal sculptural works using fragments of his own skin, the exhibition challenges audiences to reconsider the relationship between material, memory, and self. Aryan Arora’s monochromatic latex-formed figures question the masks we wear, while Alina Gross’s photography redefines perceptions of beauty and body image. Andy Yang and EL Taganas further contribute narratives that reflect movement, cultural memory, and the emotional landscapes of contemporary society.

Beyond aesthetics, Second Skin invites meaningful conversations around sustainability, inclusivity, and the evolving language of contemporary art. The exhibition encourages viewers to look beyond appearances and reflect on how identity is shaped through layers of experience, vulnerability, and transformation.

Presented by Mavenira Gallery — a platform dedicated to amplifying artistic voices through exhibitions, storytelling, and global creative dialogue — Second Skin offers audiences an immersive encounter with art that is both visually compelling and intellectually resonant.
